Indy's Journey

In January 2024, our world turned upside down when our beloved dog, Indy, suddenly slipped a disc in his back. It happened so quickly – within just 24 hours, he went from being a normal, lively, playful dog to being completely paralyzed from his mid-back down.

The Diagnosis

After rushing Indy to the emergency vet, we received the devastating news that he needed urgent spinal surgery. Despite the procedure and our hopes for recovery, the damage to his spinal cord was severe and irreversible.

The following months were filled with intense rehabilitation efforts. We tried everything – hydrotherapy, laser therapy, physical therapy, and numerous other treatments. We were determined to help Indy regain some mobility, but despite our best efforts and the dedication of veterinary professionals, nothing seemed to work as we had hoped.

The New Reality

We found ourselves adapting to life with a paralyzed, double incontinent dog. The challenges were immense – from learning how to express his bladder, to managing his mobility with a wheelchair, to figuring out how to maintain his quality of life.

One of the biggest struggles wasn’t the medical care or daily management; it was finding help. When we needed to work or travel, finding someone knowledgeable and willing to care for a disabled dog seemed nearly impossible – all of Indy’s existing care givers were not suitable to cater to his needs so we had to start from scratch.

We know all too well that many families faced with similar situations feel they have no choice but to say goodbye to their beloved pets. The lack of support and resources can make caring for a disabled dog feel overwhelming and isolating.

A Glimmer of Hope

Everything changed when we finally found local care providers who not only had the skills to help with Indy’s special needs but who came to love him like their own. They didn’t see his disability as a burden; they saw Indy – a dog full of personality, love, and joy, who just needed some extra help.

This support network made all the difference in our lives and in Indy’s quality of life. We realised that with the right help, families could keep their disabled pets and give them fulfilling, happy lives.
